Some people claim the magazines with the metal spine running down the back are structurally stronger, but I think even the regular ones are sturdy enough. Sometimes wonder if the spine is just a different method of manufacture and not any kind of attempt to improve strength.

I've handled AK mags for over 15 years. I've only ever seen one that wouldn't work. It must have been used to hammer nails with, a lot of big nails. They actually caved in the side of the mag just below the feed lip. I used it as a demonstrator mag for years. I recently decided to beat on it myself, from the inside. Works fine now. It doesn't matter who made them. With or without the rib, they are all good. Sometimes you'll find the ones with the rib to be a bit sharp on the rib edge.

AK magazines are made very stout because in training Com Block infantry is told to use the magazine as a monopod when fireing from the prone position.

What I dont get is the inflated prices on some particular kinds. Why are there eastern block mags selling for 4/$24.99 and others are selling for $20ea? whats the difference besides the ridge running on the back?-Smooth
Life is the leading cause of death.Everything else is just a contributing factor.
