Check out the ammo manufacturers' websites. They have ballistics info on the ammo they manufacture. 0 -
Most put it right on the box, The UMC is 985 fps @ the muzzle, 936 fps @ 50yds, and 893 fps @ 100 yds, The Winchester USA is 990 fps @ the muzzle and 936 fps @ 50 yds, they did not publish 100 yrd data, It all depends on what your using it for, velocity means nothing if your misusing the load.

Published ballistics from manufacturers often are misleading since they use special equiptment, ie., test barrels which are internally smoother, test tunnels, longer lengths, and incorrect conclussions, etc.Example: Remington published stats on the 300 Ultra Mag vs Weatherby 300 Mag.* Used a special 28" test barrel vs 26" production. you can't buy that barrel.About 100-125 fps difference.* Case comparison 13% more powder. 4% more energy @300 yds. than @ 200yds. with Weatherby. Not with standard 26" barrels! Waste of powder!* 300 Ultra Mag should be compared with Wby. 30-378 Mag. Closer case capacities in which the 30-378 blows away the 300 Ultra Mag in performance, and accuracy beyond 500 yds. Concerning handguns velocities, and accuracy both can be greatly different from a 4" vs 6" barrels.Points being you must compare apples to apples, and truth from bull s+#t if you want correct comparisons.Sound like I'm on a soap box...? I do very easily when it comes to accurate info from advertising. Which is one of my job functions. I resent the unsportsman like attitudes of some companies just to sell.

Guns & Glass is totally correct, I myself didn't realize the differences in published data and actual field data until I bought a Chronograph, best money I have ever spent, I recently bought a Winchester in .308 and two boxes of Hornady TAP ammo went to my range to zero the scope and to get an Idea about the ballistics of this round, I was amazed that the data was off about 200 - 250 fps at the muzzle, but 20 feet from the muzzle it was closer to published data, so who knows where they measure, or how, but as I said earlier velocity will not matter if your misusing the round, pick the ammo based on what your using it for, I use Winchester USA for practice, but I carry my weapon and clips full of Hornady Custom Pistol Ammo
