The manual you are looking for is produced by Olin, Winchester-Western Division, entitled " Sequence of Takedown and Assembly Operations (of Model 12 Winchester slide action repeating shotgun), printed 31 Oct 1957. There is none better! Removing the bolt is a long process, taking several pages and 13 drawings to explain. It is not simple.

r.e.bob: Both of the numbered auction items appear to be the booklet I referenced. Mine is 8&1/2"x11", 116 dated pages. For grins, it was priced at a dollar back in '57. Of course, a new model 12 would run you about $62.50 back then, too.

I bought my model 12 used when I was 16 years old. I am now 62 years old. I had the bolt out one time to replace a firing pin. I can't think of one earthly reason to do it again. It taught me a very good lesson in humility. Soak it in Hoppes, brush it, blow it out with air, wipe it, use a que tip, wire brush it, try lambs wool, flannel, or alcohol, but If it was mine I probably wouldn't remove the bolt.
