    Sounds like a degreasing problem. Get a small container like an empty catfood can or similar and fill it with kerosene. Insert pocket knife and scrub with a toothbrush. There are a lot of other solvents such a paint thinner, gasolene, etc., but kerosene is less aggressive and far less likely to damage the grip scales. Dry with an absorbant cloth and then use Simichrome on the bolsters and blades. If the blades have rust spots you may want to try removing it with red Scotchbrite or OOOO steel wool and gun oil.
