Colt Competition Commander as carry weapon.

Does anyone know anything about the 1911 Competition(?) Commander model by Colt?This pistol appears to have a compensator and long spring guide which extend beyond the end of the slide.Is it practical to swtich this pistol between the standard Commander configuration and the Competition model? I would like to use this as a carry weapon, and the extra length on the Commander slide and frame defeat the purpose of the shorter Commander.
