Try Numrich gun parts. I don't see it listed but it's a big book. They have parts for almost every other rifle. Call 845-679-4867. I'll keep digging and see what I can come up with. Is gun parts inc. the same as Numrich? There is a forum at milsurpshooter.net that has a lot of old gun nuts. If you can't find it there, it doesn't exist.[This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 10-16-2001).][This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 10-16-2001).]

John--Maybe you did't get results from Numrich Gun Parts Corp. because you didn't use the right name or term for the spring. Check out The Gun Digest Book of Exploded Long Gun Drawings or the NRA Guide To Firearms Assembly and identify the part by name. Numrich Gun Parts Corp. shows the rifle and all the parts on page 453 of Catalog #22. Another source for parts is Springfield Sporters.

Thanks for all the help. Gives me something to go on. The part is the flat spring which fits in the stock and retains the bottom barrell band. I located one at Sarco but there is a $20.00 minimum and $5.00 shipping and I don't really need any other parts. I'll try the places you recommend.

For 40 dollars you can buy a new M44 from SOG.

Yeah, 40 dollars and 8 hours work milling that bayonet lug off the barrell. This one is a Model 1938, maybe someone knows if the band retaining spring is the same as a 91/30 carbine. If push comes to shove I guess I can always secure the band with a carpet tack. It's just a pickup gun.

NJRET, nice of you to help. The part is the retaining spring for the lower barrell band, the one closest to the action. Don't make a special trip but if you are by Sarcos and pick one up, e-mail me at secondamendment.1@att.net, I will mail you the price and postage. Thanks very much. John
