They are the same generation.Main difference is the zoom.3X vs 4X.And yes these are high quality and you will be pleased.cpermd[This message has been edited by cpermd (edited 10-18-2001).]

I have a 4200 on my .338-378 and it handles the recoil. 240 rounds so far without a wimper. a well built and the optics are phenominal.

How about rings and a weaver mount. With the 50mm objective I'll need extra-high rings?Which type is better 2 piece or a single weaver base?[This message has been edited by Josey1 (edited 10-18-2001).]

First things first,...Thank you for your variety of fiream related posts. I'm sure there are many other people who enjoy, and learn from them. Now your scope question. Before the Elite 3200 there was a 3000. " " " 4200 " " " 4000.Main difference is the "Rain Guard" feature on the 3200 & 4200.Differences between the 3000/3200 vs 4000/4200 are one more lens, better optical glass for sharper resolution, color renderingwhich is more important at higher magnification, and the "three fold"(3X) vs "four fold"(4X)power range. The 4000/4200 also had higher magnification available than the 3000/3200.The 3000/3200 is superior to Leupolds Vari XII, and the 4000/4200 equal to the Vari XIIIHunting especially in wet weather the Elite 4200 is superior because of the "Rain Guard"feature.

Go with Leupold 2 piece reversible bases and Burris Signature Rings. I had two B and L 4000 4-16x50mm scopes and really liked them. I think if you had the extra money I would get the 4200 model that comes closest to your power range you desire.

Josey, Are you sure you don't want a Springfield Armory scope? I got one at a good price. Just returned from Springfield with a clean bill of health. Has 30mm rings to boot!will270win@aol.com

I'm not sure what you all meen by 3 fold and 4 fold. The Elite 4200 has 95% light transmition and has been recoil tested to 10,000 rounds of .375 H&H. The 3200 has a little less light transmition and has only been recoil tested to a 1,000 rounds of .375 H&H. If you go to www.bushnell.com it explaines the differences. I own both and am very satisifed. I've used 3200 in the past and have been very happy with them but stepped up to the 4200 this year and I'm blown away with its performance.
