I got a lee classic cast press. I need to remove the 1 1/4 to 7/8 bushing so I can use the Hornady Lock and load conversion kit and I cant get the bushing out of the press. Anyone got any ideas before I break something? 0 -
Get the Ruger. Like its been said in here over and over before "it might weigh like a friggin' brick and be just as ugly...it wont give you problems". It will do its job just like any other. Not to mention the $40 rebate they are giving away with each purchase.-Smooth

AZ,When I was poorer, and only had enough money for an inexpensive gun that I could shoot for fun, I just had my Ruger Mk2--it's only a 22, but at home, I kept it loaded with CCI Stinger ammo (I lived in Detroit at the time); never needed it for defense, but if I had I'm sure it would have helped!More specifically, to answer your question, I prefer Rugers over Smith and Wessons generally--but I'd suggest, if you're choosing between the two, to ask yourself, which one "felt better" when you first picked it up?I always consider that the best gun a person should own for self-defense is one that "feels natural" to hold and point. 0 -
The Ruger is nice and reliable. consider the polymer Ruger p97.... It's list is cheaper, and it has an 8 round mag instead of 7.Evan Marshall's book says that the .22 Stingers give 34% 1 shot stops... i only used Stingers when i carried a .22 0 -
These guys have it right. The Smith autos suck. Buy the Ruger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 0 -
Which Smith and Wesson are you talking about? If it is the Sigma, I would get the Ruger. If it is the 4006 or one of its sibblings, I would get the Smith, especially if you have small thick hands and short fingers. I have had both the P90 and the 4006 and prefered the Smith because of its smaller grip, it never jammed once with several different brands of ammo and shot smaller groups at 25 yards than the Ruger. I do like the 40 much better than a 9mm. Just my opinion. 0 -
I guess you guys are right!! What makes the S&W so crappy?? You can't beat the $40 rebate either! I have big hands so I guess the Ruger will work! I do want the biggest punch for the Dollar so the Ruger would be the best buy! Thanks for the Comments, I appreciate it.... 0 -
Thanks for the comments!! I guess I will go with the Ruger!! What makes the S&W so Crappy?? You can't beat the $40 rebate either! I also would like the most Bang the Buck!! So the .45 it is!!! 0 -
FYISmith and Wesson are fixing all their new Sigmas. I got a SW40P and it didn't feed right. I brought it to S&W and they are aware of the problem. They are going to put in a new barrel with a different feeding ramp and replace the springs in the mags. All the new ones going out now are fine.

with all due respect, and leaving the political element out of the discussion, S & W auto are very good pistols for self defense. They are extremely reliable, passably accurate, and have decent ergonomics. S & W autos will feed anything offered them. They also hold resale value pretty well, if that matters. There are a lot of holsters available for them too. 0 -
