    I have a sporterized 30/40 I've been considering scoping. I found S&K has no-gunsmith mounts but they aren't cheap. I don't know if they'll fit non US Krags though.WOODS

We did this just a short while ago. All thescoped Krags I have seen used side mountswhich requires drilling & tapping the left side of the receiver which is anathemato the Krag lovers of course. It may also be possible to use a long eye relief scope attached to the barrel using the dove tailslot for the rear sight.

As much as I dislike this company, B-square make a reasonably priced mount for your Krag, I used it on mine.

Due to the almost straight up ejection of the Krag action it is difficult to mount any scope center of action, My uncle built A special mount that has two screws forward of the action in the barrel and a tensioning screw at the rear, the scope sets about 1/2 inch off the center and he adjusted the ejector and extractor to clear, he claims he got the idea from one of the Howe books on gunsmithing.

Thanks a bunch, one and all.I will report the findings to Knut.He is in Norway so what he does with his Krag 8mm will have no bearing on our military collectors. Thanks again.modoc

My Krag has the rear sight missing & a peepsight installed in place of the cut-offlever. There is a dove-tail in the rear of the barrel that is .570" wide across the barrel & .300" at the top of the dovetail &.390" at the bottom. Of course this rifle has been sporterized & it is possible that this is a replacement barrel or that the dovetail could have been cut in later.
