russsian sks
hey guys any help would be appreciated...i recently inherited a russian sks these are the numbers, just curious what i have. the cover says 1953r and has a star, the numbers match and are 03084, thanks

moses25,I also just bought a "53"model Russian SKS and it is a superb rifle.Its the best SKS I`ve seen and it groups 5in 1in. at 50yds.I ordered a folding stock for it from Clasic Arms in Ky for $40 that fit it perfectly.Mine has the black bolt cover,instead of silver.DD 0 -
mine also has the black cover....and i am also very happy with it, it does seem to be very accurate...great gun at a great price...how do you feel about scoping it? any experience? 0 -
I scoped the Chinese Norinco that I had a few years ago and it worked out quite well.My Rusky weighs right @ 8lbs and a scope is another pound or so,making it a little heavy for me.Also the Rusky has one of the best sight pictures for open sights I`ve seen,even for my mid 40`s eyes.If I were serious about deer hunting I would scope it.The empty cases hit end of scope,but didn`t hurt it.They have deflectors and little short $20 SKS scopes.DD 0 -

yea dana...the cover is black...bolt is silver...i've never seen a black bolt on one before...is it just a refurbishing difference? also ...sights are great on my rifle...i was just wondering if the scope option was worth it accuracy wise...i know it obviously will be easier to sight but what is the max accuracy distance on a russian sks anyway? 0 -
Moses25,somebody said in earlier post that black bolt was part of arsenal refinish.As far as effective range I would think about 175yds for deer with enough remaining energy,but I would think the rusky accucracy would hold up for 300-400yds,I haven`t shot a SKS past 200yds,see yaDD 0 -
My russian is wicked at 308 yds(thats the distance to the woods) handloads can increase your confidence immensly with this gun. The russians are truly the best made. If you are unsure as to the scope option, buy one of the $20 short scopes and reciever covers with the rings built in for $13 more. This way you can oil and store the original reciever cover. 0
