.40 cal. VS .45 cal
Would you the .40 cal has the same stoping power as a .45 even if the .40 is a little smaller.

Go to www.evanmarshall.com/ and look at the real world statistics on stopping power. The .45 has more energy than the .40. They are pretty close though.

I can buy 45s from WOLF alot cheaper than those puney 40s of any brand. I see no reason to own a 40cal at all. 0 -
shane,I agree that .45ACP is the better choice, but "puney" on the .40 S&W would depend on which end of the muzzel you were on.

They'll both kill you dead just the same, which would you rather be shot with ... choose the opposite.

The .40 is just the 10mm's bastard offspring, if you are gonna do it, don't do it half-azzed, go with the 10mm.Regards,BigTex 0 -
The 40 will kill humans, but dont go hunting with it. If you are after hogs, use the 45, it will knock em down! 0 -
Here's a fair example. 40 cal 180grain bullet at max load 944fps 45 cal 185grain bullet at max load 924fpsNot a big difference as you can plainly see. How about magazine capacity? The typical 40 cal gun comes with at least 10 round's. The typical 45 8 rounds. To be specific you can find 12 round mags for the 40 & 45 in some cases. How about cost of ammo? 45 cal has got to be far more popular, thus cheaper. Now you have the facts. You decide!!!! RG 0 -
I have both and love to shot both .But I carry the 45.(BIGGER IS BETTER)

Yep, bigger is better, If you get a 180 grain 9mm at 945 fps, it still will not equal the stopping power of a 45 acp. 0 -
if you want more capacity, sure get the 9mm in 15 round capacity, or the 40 in ten round capcity, but they make 10 round mags as well for the 45 acp. 0 -
why carry so much extra? 8 each .45 is all I carry in my Sig, but one is all I need for a crook, unless there are 7 more of them. Obviously, I prefer the .45, but no matter how much rounds you carry, it does not mean a thing if you can't hit your target.GD 0 -
That is exactly my point. My sig has 8 round capacity, and my trusty colt has 7 round capacity. That is all I need. 0 -
The 9MM's usually have a higher capacity magazine because you have to hit your target more times to get the same effect as one .45 round. You're usually not having to defend the entire neighborhood single handed so why all the ammo? If you can't stop the threat with 8 rounds of .45, it better be "feets don't fail me now!!!"Mudge
