Colt 38 police spec.- rebarrel???

I have a Colt Police in .38 special. The barrel is shot out. It is serial 9135xx. Can this revolver's barrel be replaced? How much of a headache is it? Does anyone know where this can be done? Will Colt do it? Thanks for any help. RGPS: Its an old gun that was my grandfathers. I would like it to be more than paperweight.

  No saxonpig I'm anal about cleaning so it must have seen heavy use(good for grandad). You can see the groove but its worn and the gun shoots lousey groups no matter the load type. The stamp reads "Official Police 38 special ctg."Colt's PT FA MFG CO Hartford Conn. USABTW-He was a County Sheriff and this was his old service weapon. I guess in the old days they gave the revolvers to them when they retired.[This message has been edited by rg666 (edited 10-15-2001).]
