Mosin-Nagant M38
Has anyone any info on the M38? I bought one of these yesterday for a pickup gun. Has serial #KN2361. Dealer seemed to think it was a 1944 unit without the bayonet, but does have a recess for an M44 bayonet.Has sling escutcheons fore and aft. Nice little carbine, matching numbers, lot of blue left, bright bore and cleaning rod. Stock has dings and gouges but can remedy this. I posted this on Gun & Knife under Russian weapons, had no responses. Anyone have an opinion??

If you have a Model 1938 it should not have or take a bayonet. If your stock is grooved for one then it was (if it is a 1938) retro-fitted with a 1944-type stock. The 1938 was produced from 1938 until 1944. The rear sight should be graduated with numbers from 1 to 10 which are meters, 100 to 1000. 0 -
Yes, the sight is like you say. I am taking the dealers word that there is a bayonet recess present. He said that the fact that the receiver, bolt, floorplate and buttplate have matching numbers indicate that the stock is original. The cartouche is a tiny rectangle with what appears to be two capital U's inside. What would the bayonet recess resemble if there is one present? 0 -
I found this website which will answer most of your questions on the Russian rifle. It gives length, weight, caliber, velocity etc of the different models, plus pictures. The address is www.russian-mosin-nagant.com 0
