Cleanshot in black powder cartridges
I just picked up a bottle of Cleanshot. I plan on reloading 32-40's using cleanshot, cast bullets and reformed .32 special cases. Can I just follow the formula I've been using with GOEX & Pyrodex P. What about primers, I read somewhere of pressure problems if I use magnum primers like I've been using. Also the bottle says no lube. I find that hard to believe. Tips anybody? If this proves successful I plan on using it in my 45-70 and 32-20 revolver.

I can't tell you about loading rifle or pistol cartridge cases with Clean Shot as I have not tried it. I do load solid brass shotshell cases and paper shotshell cases to use in my Damascus barreled shotguns with Clean Shot. I backed down the charge by about 10% and then as testing proceeded brought the charge back up to the same amount as the charge of black powder that I was previously using. The solid brass shotshell cases use large rifle primers instead of the battery-cup primers that the paper shotshell cases use. I have not had any ignition problems with the large rifle primers and I just use the standard primers not the magnum primes.I can't say about rifle and pistol cases, but in one of my black powder pistols, the lube got hot - melted and contaminated the Clean Shot. It resulted in failure to fire.In my flint-lock, I use a charge of Clean Shot under a patched ball. I use a charge of 4F black powder in the pan. So far I have NOT had a failure to fire. 0 -
Thanks for the input, just went and bought some liquid Alox, that shouldn't melt. Hopefully it will prevent leading. Only reason I'm concerned about lube is this old Marlin seems to prefer soft 30:1 alloy bullets. Thanks again 0
