MAS 36 to .308 conversion?
Have MAS 36 in 7.5mm French would like to have converted to .308. Has anyone out there done this? If so can they ballpark what a gunsmith would charge for this service? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Yes, the M.A.S. 36 has been successfully convered to .308 Winchester as the two cartridges are nearly the same. The French cartridge is a little larger in the base. As to what it would cost to convert your rifle to .308,it would be more then the rifle is worth and you would still be stuck with a rifle with rear locking lugs giveing a springy action plus the two piece stock which is not known to promote accuracy. 0 -
If you get it done, don't get one of those stupid chamber inserts; they often cause jams. Get a gunsmith to replace the whole barrel with one chambered in .308. Again, not worth the money.
