    Have Winchester of 1917 in the closet. 30-06 with Herter muzzle brake on it. Doesn't appear to be original. Not finding much info on this production. Post some thots on the rifle. Thanks, GW.

    I'm sure the 44 magnum caliber model could do the job at distances under 100 yards, if you are interested in a Winchester lever gun to knock deer down, look at the trapper series in .444 marlin,or the Winchester 1886 in 45-70,good luck and go get 'em...

    Why not go with a Marlin in .450 marlin, which I personally think has the stronger reciever, for sheer knockdown, besides if you turn him over you'll just have to right him.
