What would i have to do?
What steps would I have to to if I wanted to buy a Class III machine gun? And make it legal? I live in Texas.

Don't know about Texas, but in Kentucky you find a class III dealer that has the gun you want or who is willing to do the transfer. You then need to fill out the paper work, have yourself finger printed, have your local chief law enforcement officer do a background check on you and sign-off that your a good guy. Your dealer then forwards your paperwork and $200 to Washington for more background checks. After about 3 to 4 months you either get a Tax Stamp for your gun, or a denial. I did it three times in Deer Park, Texas with no problems...with an Uzi, a M-2 carbine, and a MAC-10 .45. The key is getting the sign off by your CLEO. It is NOT his approval. He is simply saying that possessison is not against any local ordinance and that he has no reason to believe you would misuse the gun. In theory, you can force his signature; but it might cost more than the effort is worth.One note...An individual with a Class 3 weapon can sell the firearm to another individual with no Class 3 dealer involved. The process is the same. A Class 3 dealer knows the ropes and has the forms and may have the gun you want; but you do NOT have to go through one for a transfer from individual to an individual.When I retired to Colorado, all I had to do was notify the local Marshal that I was bringing it into his jurisdiction. He had no problems with it and offered to write the ATF a letter if I need it. Also, I had to document the move via a letter to the ATF. 0 -
It is not illegal to possess a full auto weapon, but it must be registered with your local police dept. For tracking purposes. and yes they will perform a full background check. You must be squeaky clean. 0
