I was wondering what the difference was between a remington sportsman 48 and a 11-48?

How is the gas system different? Better/worse? Will the barrels interchange? Thanks.

The 11-87 barrels have a gas collar assembly as part of the barrel assembly, which allows is to self-adjust for 2 3/4" or 3" shells. Some parts will interchange between models, many will not. Generally the barrels do not interchange between these two models. The 11-87 is more versatile than the 1100, that is why it supplanted the 1100 in the Remington line (as far as 12ga, anyway).

Antique, I am new to this forum. My fater purchased a Remington Model 11, 20ga/full in 1947 as my first gun. Still have it. Always wondered about its value. Was told that only 300+ were made because Browning cliped Remingtons wing for useing their style, is that correct? What is this gun wourth today. Condition (1-10) 10 being mint about at 7 or 8. Thanks for the reply

Good lord, I wonder how some of those tales get started. My guess is someone trying to inflate the value...Anyway, Browning did not STOP Remington from producting the 11, they LICENSED Remington to produce the 11. In fact, during the years that FN was occupied by the Germans, Remington produced the guns with Browning's name on them.Over 300 THOUSAND Model 11's were made, in several different grades. A 20ga in very good condition, plain barrel, would bring $300-$400.
