The large flashholes came from Winchester Winclean ammo. It is a no-lead ammo designed for inclosed range shooting and the primers have a lead free compound that is too weak to fire through a regular flashhole. Personaly,I wouldn't reload them even though the box says "they offer full reloadability". Doesn't say that means you must use the original lead free primers either but pressures have to be higher with that enlarged flashhole.

I've noticed that too, I've got about 50 or 60 winchester cases seperated from the rest because they had a large flash hole. I figure on reloading them seperatly, because I'm sure they will have different characteristics, maybe higher pressure or something.

Thanks for the info. I'd suspected the large hole version were from another line of Winchester's products & just got mixed in with the batch I bought.

I came across a handful of 45 cases that use small pistol primers. Still don't know who made them.

I would advise AGAINST reloading the Win-Clean cases. You are correct - they will have different burn rates and I know of no published data for them. For safety's sake DON'T. Is your health worth the cost of 40 1x cases? Hell NO!If you feel you have to reload them, at least call Winchester and talk with their experts. Maybe they will tell you yes, maybe no. But at least you will find out whether you should buy a new life ins. policy and put my name on it!
