Took me a while to dig out box with books in it, but found my WELL WORN 1956 SHOOTER'S BIBLE. On page 65 it specifically states that the receiver is drilled and tapped, 2 holes on bridge and 2 holes on receiver ring to accomodate several universal scope mount bases. Both deluxe and standard models were drilled and tapped by factory. Have had several M-43 over the years and in every case the factory d&t was on top of receiver and after market was side mount. This last statement is strictly my experience. Obviously, a good gunsmith could d&t top mounts. GREAT little guns!
