Kimber magazine problems

Both, but more the basics of the 8 round magazine than anything else. They are able to get 8 rds in what has always been a 7rd mag body by changing the follower and sometimes the spring. By getting more in there, there isn't any crush room. In other words, there is no place for the fully loaded rounds to go when you put it in the gun with the slide in the forward position. Normally the top round sticks up enough to be caught by the slide as it comes forward. It then is of course pushed into the chamber. With the slide in the forward position, you are pushing down on the top round when you try to lock the mag into position. There is no place for the round to go. There is no more crush factor to the spring. the mag is already bottomed out with the 8 rds.You may have caused the magazine to have been swelled, bulged, or otherwise damaged by trying to force the mag to lock in with the 8 rds and the slide forward. Try locking in the mag with the slide back, then letting the slide go forward. Unfortunately you may have already damaged the mag beyond use. It is also possible that your gun just doesn't like that brand of 8rd mag.

I agree, go try a Chip McCormik Shooting Star mag, and also maybe a Wilson Rogers Mag, and see which one it likes, buy a bunch of what it likes and stick with it.

I have a bunch of Wilson Combat 8 rounders which work flawlessly, as do the 7 rounders that came with them ... only problem I ever had was using some Colt marked GI mags I bought for next to nothing ... turned out thats what they were worth ...
