460 Rowland
Brownells sells the conversion kit. Anyone have input on the conversions? Recoil? Wear on pistol?

I saw a conversion kit to make a 1911 shoot a 460 Rowland. They claim it has comprable ballistics to a 44 mag.Anyone have experience with it? How about brass, dies and reloading data? Thanks 0 -
Yep, I bought one & fitted it to my Kimber Custom Target. Works great! A bit tricky to get completely installed; spring shaft is two-piece. Dies: any set for .45 ACP will work fine; the .460 brass is .063 longer (but structurally MUCH different!) than the standard .45 brass. Brass: Starline has 'em, & there's an ammo company in Kentucky I think that's loading commercial loads. Load data: if you get Johnny Rowland's kit, he includes load data for three or four different bullets & propellants. With the conversion spring & compensated barrel recoil isn't unpleasant; a great deal less mass than my Desert Eagle .44 so the Kimber .460 Rowland "feels" hotter but really isn't... just "sharper." Just don't load this caliber on the light side; accuracy seems to suffer greatly & the spent brass often fails to clear the slide. 0
