Barrel weight

Smith and Wesson did. They offered barrel weights in steel and aluminum that clamped to the underside of the 7" barrel in that groove near the muzzle. They are fairly rare, and a full set can run as much as $400-$450.

Additional internal weights that were steel or aluminum could be added by simply removing the muzzle brake and sliding them in the opening drilled under the bore. Early 41 long barrels had a slight machined groove on both sides of the barrel to accept the factory external weights, later long barrel units did not have this. I've got two sets of factory steel weights (not for sale) and would love to find a set of the aluminum weights.

THE A PREFIX SHOULD HANDLE A SCREW-IN WEIGHT (IF IT HAS A BRAKE OR FALSE MUZZEL CAP HELD BY A SCREW) THE SCREW-IN WEIGHT CAN BE ALUMINUM OR STEEL. WITH A LITTLE SKILL. THE WEIGHT CAN BE SUBSTITUTED WITH LEAD (OR PLATINUM) TO INCREASE THE WEIGHT. AS NOTED ABOVE, FOR A RANSOM (DUE TO COLLECTOR VALUE) A THREE PIECE WEIGHT THAT SLIDES ON THE GROOVE IN THE BARREL. THEY ARE OF FROM ALL THREE STEEL TO ALL THREE ALUMINUM, OR ANY COMBINATION. IF INTERESTED, I HAVE SCREW-IN OR THREE PIECE SETS AVAILABLE AT A COLLECTOR PRICE. I PROBABLY HAVE A 7" WITH BRAKE AVAILABLE.IF YOU HAVE A NEWER BARREL, OPTIONS ARE TO DRILL IT AND ADD LEAD OR TAP IT AND HAVE SOME UNDER-BARREL WEIGHTS MADE LIKE ON A MODEL 46.
