I was helping my grandmother clean out the basement, and found a present form gramps wrapped in some old oil cloths. It was 2 fifty round thompson drums. But it seems that the oil rag didn't help and they are pretty rusty. Does rebluing hurt the value of these?

  i guess it would depend on what the buyer would be interested in...wouldn't it? I suppose if someone were interested in original ones then they would want the rusty ones (although i dont know why someone would buy them if they are in that poor of condition).....if someone wanted to actually use them or even for show i would say reblue them but of course they are not orignial and new so yes the price would go down....thats what the mice on my wheel tell me at least.

  Used drums (50 rd) go from $500 and up. As said, depending upon the amount of rust, they might go pretty fast. Put one on the auction and see what happens. Good luck.
