How does one go about on getting an FFL license? Can anyone have one, or do you have to be a collector or own a shop? What does it cost? I live in Ohio and I buy alot of guns and then eventually tire out and sell or trade them just wondering if it would be easier to get and FFL.Thanks Kevin

Your question appears in this Forum about once/week. Maybe someone can refer you to a website location with all the details. Yes, you can get an FFL and operate out of your house. I have done it for 24 years. Many (50+%) dropped out during the Clinton/Reno years, saying it was too much "hassle". I say it depends upon how much one wants it. They have also dropped a lot of the intrusive information on the application. I have had two audits, and both were very cordial and professional. If you get it and only log a few guns, all to yourself, over the 3 year term, they will likely not renew you. So, I would suggest you work at making it a "business" as required by the regs.

Sorry, I missed one point. It costs $200 for the initial three years and $90 for each 3-year renewal.

CALL YOUR LOCAL BATF OFFICE. ALSO CHECK YOUR LOCAL ZONING LAWS. IF YOU CITY DOESN'T ALLOW BUSINESS OUT OF HOME SITES YOUR APP. WILL BE DENIED. GOOD LUCK. BE SURE, NOT SORRY

It looks like alot of work from what research I've done so far. I just hate having to fill out that stupid yellow form and then getting delayed for 24 hours. Why is it that I get delayed all the freaking time? I never been arrested never had a traffic ticket. No trouble ever with the law. Not even a civil case ever. I'm currently going thru the process to become a cop. Maybe things will get better.

WILL NOT HELP. THE PROBLEM IS NOT YOU. IT IS THE SYSTEM. CALL YOU ELECTED OFFICALS AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE INSTANT-CHECK.

Venomskin, 24hr wait. It only took them five minutes to do mine. I have had three traffic tickets in my life, one for running a stop sign (I was 16 just started driving, LEO was tailgating me with his brights on, stop sign was in very unlikely 3-way stop place.), and two for speeding (my fault all the way.)Maybe thats why it takes so long for them to do yours, because you don't have a record. You should get a speeding ticket and see if that helps. Just kidding, don't get a ticket.
