Detonics .45 Magazines (only) wanted
A friend of mine has asked me to help locate some magazines for his Detonics .45ACP. Anybody got any or know who might want to sell a couple cheap?[This message has been edited by bigbossman (edited 09-22-2001).]

Cheap? You are kidding.Get some officers mags to shoot with, the Detonics are not cheap 0 -
Standard Colt Officer's Model Mags will fit this gun unaltered? I haven't seen a Detonics in years. I know what they are but I'm not really familiar with their specs. Thanks.......... 0 -
An Officer's Model magazine is longer than a Detonics magazine, but will work in the Detonics, as will any magaine that will fit a standard M1911-pattern pistol. I never understood why Colt did not try to make the Officer's Model more compact to match the Detonics, but then the strange decisions of Colt management are responsible for where Colt is today. I seem to recall that some Detonics magazines were on the auction site recently. Keep watching.[This message has been edited by JudgeColt (edited 09-23-2001).] 0 -
The officers mags fit fine 0 -
Just to clarify, cpermd has said the Officer's Model magazines will "fit fine," and I have said all standard M1911-pattern magazines will fit a Detonics, but please understand that all will hang out the bottom to varying degrees. (The Officer's Model is the shortest Colt magazine and it hangs out a Detonics about 3/8-inch.) Those facts may not fit the Detonics owner's definition of "fit fine." Perhaps "work fine" would be a better description. 0 -
OKBut my three only stick out 1/8thWhich I like as I can make sure they are in 0 -
Strange. My genuine Colt Officer's Model magazine really is about 3/8-inch longer than my genuine Detonics magazine. I wonder if later Detonics magazines were longer? Mine is a early one that has the "tail" that sticks out the bottom of the magazine when it is fully loaded and seated in the pistol. Although I am not aware of it, perhaps later Detonics magazines did away with that feature and were slightly longer to ensure seating when slammed home, or to allow for an extra round. (My Detonics magazine holds six. What does the longer magazine hold?) Still, I do not see how there could be a quarter inch difference in length. Did Detonics, in one of its several restarts, ever make a pistol with a slightly longer butt? Perhaps that is the explanation. Strange. 0 -
Originals, when you can find them, are running 80-120. The original manufacturer, Metalform?, is selling a 6 shot mag for New Detonics that should fit for about $37--Brownells and Numrich have no name aftermarket mags for about 25-28.
I'm looking for one original stainless, too, but am not prepared to pay the 100 that I'm seeing them offered for sale for.

Wasn't that the gun that shipped without even a single magazine? 0 -
I believe Detonics is back in business. Email them info@detonicsusa.com or give them a call 1-866-759-1169. 0
