Leupold for 22 rifle
which leupold should I put on my savage 93fvss 22 caliber rifle? I plan on shooting pidgeons at 100 to 300 yards. Will a 3x9x40 be good enough?

I put a Leupold 3x9 on a 77/22 and get sub moa with it, groups normally covered by a quarter at 100, if I do my part. I've never tried it at 2 or 300 but if you are good with ballistics I guess it's possible. You must really not like pigeons. 0 -
Won't work effectively at the longer ranges.Take an object the 1/2 the size of the "kill zone" of your 'beloved' pigeon, look at it at 100yds. Then use a 1/3 scale. Get an "eyes feel" of what it's like to: aquire the target, lock on, and hold on. Then using a blank round, try to squeeze off accurate shots watching the reticle movement.Now, if you in your mind think that you'll do ok, I'm not talking about 'feelings' but a mental decision that your delivering a SAFE, and humane kill....the best is comming.Accurate sighting without some parallax error won't happen at 9X on such a small target unless you have a scope with an adjustable objective which will let you focus for the target at the longer ranges.What will happen is either the target will be sharp, or the reticle. One or the other...not both. So you simply won't be able to see clearly. You will be dangerous.I sell Shepherds, and the one previously recommended will work, however you might want to also consider the 6-18X which can be used on a 22RF if done correctly. Easy to explain how. The difference is worth it to see much better, and for safe, fun, and not wasting ammo shooting. Do you already have a scope you would like to use?
