exploding targets
I'd like to know if anyone has tried those exploding targets that the seller kavmac sells on gunbroker. Do they work and if so then is there another way to set them off?

I bought some in the '60s made by Arrowanna Products, p.o. Box 286 Middletown,Conn.. They are 1 3/16 dia., have an adhesive backing and an international red face. If these are the same, they worked very well at 100yds. At the time I used a Numrich .36 caliber black powder underhammer. You could see & hear the blast through the smoke.
I still have a few left but they may have become duds because one I tried recently didn't go off.0 -
Thanks for the feedback. I bought two kits and had'nt had a chance to try them, but as you know the new year will be here soon and I was wondering if there was some other way of setting them off. I have five acres of land in an ag subdivision. I made a homemade cannon with a truck driveshaft and fill it with accetelene and oxegen and it packs a powerful punch. I've also shot wild pigs with a thirty thirty and wondered if those exploding targets would shatter my windows on my home. I think I could get a shot off at about maybe two hundred feet of clear veiw. But if there was some other way of setting it off, then I would be able to set it further away.

Larry, I may be all wet on this, but if these are the same things I see at gun shows, the amount of explosive is pretty low and the concussion is not going to threaten any windows not in danger from heavy rifle blasts. I bought a few in years past for the 'ell of it and while they went 'bang' I decided water-filled vessels were more visually dramatic. 0 -

Ironclast, your mistaken on these babies. I ordered a whole case of them, they are called Tannerite, direct from the manufacturer! They are awesome and very very loud and very powerful. They sound like a couple of sticks of dynamite going off. We blew a garbage can 150 feet in the air with one. I would not reccomend shooting them any closer than 100 yds away. Lots of fun hiding them on the back of your buddies target, but don't put them on anything you don't want destroyed.
The only thing that will set them off is a high velocity rifle or a blasting cap. You can light them with a torch and they will not blow.
They are at the present time perfectly legal to ship, in the unmixed form, but that is subject to change. You have to mix the nitrate with the synthesizing agent to make them active. Once you have done this, they are now illegal to ship!

P.s. The target is a plastic bottle about 1and 1/2 inch in dia and about 6 inches high,they have an orange sticker on the front.

Thanks Pabooga, We're talking about the same stuff. It does come in a clear plastic bottle with an orange lable. I thank you for the sound advice and will now stick to firecrackers and my homemade cannon. I'll e-mail you back to get more info. tannerite.....wow very exsposive...no need for dino..anything that shoots over 2000fps will make this stuff go off...they have a nice video they sell for there product that is very helpfull...at 100 yrds you can feel it through your whole body....just my experience...tom 0 -
