COMPENSATOR ON RUGER 10/22
I was thinking of putting a Volquartsen compensator on my ruger 10/22 with a bull barrel. Do you guys think I will see a difference and do you think it will affect the accuracy of the gun. Also does anyone have an idea on what a gunsmith would charge to do this job. The barrel has to be threaded 13/16" x 20 tpi.

I'd be inclined to install a really great barrel with a built-in compensator rather than put a compensator on a barrel unless the latter barrel was of exceptional performance.
How much better you'd shoot is probably less than you'd expect as a 22LR rifle has almost no recoil. But if you are trying to make a real tackdriver go for it. Volquartsen stuff is first rate.

Compensators are to there to reduce muzzle jump on heavily recoiling firearms. You don't need one on a .22. 0 -

Compensators and barrel porting on .22 LR rifle will do little or nothing for it's accuracy. They are nice cosmetic touchs on tricked of guns however. Muzzle brakes or brake/compensators are to reduce felt recoil and muzzle rise on heavily recoiling calibers. The .50 BMG round, comes to mind. Some compensators can adversely affect accuracy. If the ports are not precise in angle and size they can destabalize the bullet. Therefore stick with brand names, cheapies can be more trouble than they are worth.0 -
I went with a Clarke barrel with a 5 port comp for my 10-22 ... Same as dano, I don't think it helped the accuracy, and it does make it look "finished" ... however it has one huge advantage ...
RECOIL IS ... ALMOST NON-EXISTANT!

OK, I suppose this will get me in trouble but I have a Ruger 10/22 and I think it is a waste of time and money to put any more $$$$$$ into it.

Wish I had the talent to carve a piece of wood like that! Its a walnut Fajen stock, I think they called it the "Silhouette", bought it before they went out of business as a semi-finished drop-in ... supposedly it just needed a "light finish sanding" ... however when I got it, it still had router grooves in it from end to end, but the action did "drop-in" ... after bedding the action it actually fit too! Although I am happy with the way it turned out, for the amount of work left to do on this one made me wish I'd sprung the extra $$ for the finished model.
