I have one that was given to me by an old (1930's) park ranger when I was a kid. Real value (to you) is it is Winchesters FIRST semi-auto shotgun.

The Winchester 1911 12 ga. was the first shotgun my Father ever let me shoot. The deal was, once I was strong enough to chamber a shell, I could then fire it.
I remember the first shot like it was yesterday. I was so proud that I finally got that darn barrel down far enough to get a round in. Then my father help me properly position the shotgun, warned me of the "kick", stood behind me and help keep me from being knocked on my butt.
I fell in love with that shotgun and through all of my youthful years, used it to hunt pheasants, etc.
If you can keep the forearm in one piece, it rarely needs anything besides normal cleaning.
It was Winchesters first attempt at an auto loader and probably, in truth, helped sell the Browning auto loader. Overcoming new spring tension in the barrle to chamber a shell was tough.
If I am not mistaken, it was nicknamed the "widow maker". Guys would load it by placing the butt on the ground with the barrel up toward their nose and push down from that angle to chamber a shell. Or, some would place the muzzle ontop of their shoe [or worse, dirt] and then press down from the stock to chamber a shell.
Safe to say it was a learning experiece for Winchester and the same for those who bought the model 1911.

Ginger's got it pegged. I asked a few questions here previously and a bunch of the guys told of horror stories.

Mine has more sentimental value since the old-timer taught me a bunch about "the woods". I also served as his pallbearer many years ago.

Mines not for shooting, but it fits my collection of Winchesters. Do be careful with it. May be the start of a new collection for you.

ginger and texas nailed it. Should not be fired and considered a collectors item only. Widow Maker was the nickname. 101
