Best way to sell Winchester 101 28 ga.?

Hi experts out there. I have recently inherited a Winchester 101 28 ga. skeet model. It is in excellent shape and I beleive it to be a field model. I wish I could tell if it was 98% or 95% or even 90%. It came in it's original box and I beleive made in 1969 according to the box. What is the best way to trade or sell this gun so I can get one to use on a regular basis. When the person sold it to my father he claimed it had not been fired but I have taken to a local who showed me the signs that it had been fired but not much. What info can you guys give me? A local dealer tells me it sells on the internet for around $1400 -$1500 and I beleive him to be a honest person. Would taking $1100.00 trade from this man be a ok deal or should I try to sell it myself?

    I'd try to sell it myself if I were you. I'd run it on a Gunbroker auction. Start the bidding around $1000-$1100, set back and see what happens. You might be pleasantly surprised. If it doesn't sell, you can always trade it to you local dealer later.

    If there is a skeet range near you, they usually have a bulletin board with guns and equipment for sale. Plus you have to opportunity to bargain face to face. Sometimes being able to hold the shotgun inspires the buyer to go a little higher than they normally would go. I have had excellent results this way.

    Why not just shoot it yourself? Yes, it's a 28 ga, and yes, it's a Win 101 but the ammo can be had. If you don't really want it, take it to a trap/skeet shoot and let everybody know you want to sell it. Then duck.

    28gauge 101's are prized by shooters and collectors alike, Myself included. The 28 gauge has become EXTREMELY popular with the sporting clay crowd and upland game bird hunters. If you post it for sale on this or any auction set the reserve at what you expect it to bring. You will, in all likelyhood be surprized how fast it is met then passed. The 101 is among the finest American stack barrels. The workmanship of these gun is superb. I will watch for it and hope to put in the winning bid. As I said in an earlier post, I buy them when I can.

    Thanks for the good info. I will probably put this gun up for auction on Gunbroker. I have to take some pictures and read all the info that they give you about selling products so I a hoping to have it for auction on Monday the 30th. I beleive this gun to be in almost perfect condition because it has no scratches and very few blemishes on the stock which you have to look very closely to see. One dealer tells me that it has been fired and showed me a ring around the firing pin on the top barrel but I can not see much around the bottom firing pin. I beleive the gun was fired some initially before my father received it. I will try to get to another gunsmith so I can come up with a number (98, 95 etc.)for the condition of this gun. The box is in good shape, especially since it has been around since 1969 however one end of the box has been disconnected and operates more like a flap. I will get to work and hopefully you guys will see on the board tommorow. Thanks again for all the info.

    UPdate: I am still waying my options and will decide Thurday morning if it will go up for bidding on Thursday morning or I will trade it locally.

    Well, you have some buyers waiting here. It could go as high as $1500 in new condition.

    I believe the condition is 90%(from feedback that I have recieved) and I have the original box. Can someone give me a ball park figure on the potential value? I have gotten regular blue book. Thanks!
