Recommend a 22 target pistol
Want a pistol to target shoot for fun and practice. Saw a Colt type 'B' Woodsman Match Target 22lr. It felt great. It was also expensive.
Also tried a Ruger MarkII. It was nice too, stainless with a long barrel. Didn't feel as good as the Woodsman though.
There was S & W as well, but it was not a good fit to my hand.
I am left handed, but can make my own grips if needed. The safety's need to be accessible using it that way.
I have a Luger style - angle, balance - for other stuff. I think I would want a similar point and shoot hand position.
Yeah, I am ignorant, so help me out here if you can.

Try almost any of the old Hamden,CT High Standards. Victor, Trophy,Citation, or Supermatics. Many of these models are avail with the military style or slant grip and the takedown for cleaning is SOOO much easier than a Ruger. The older High Standards were a top quality pistol not to be confused with some of the later maunufacturers.

The old ruger standards are a lot of gun for the money. The are a
B!t(# to take down though. Very accurate though. Another option for me would be a CZ75 with a kadet kit. You being a lefty, could get an 85 with ambidextrous controls. Supposed to have match grade accuracy. Can throw the 9mm or 40 upper back on for some bigger vermin in seconds. Ergonomic grip angle feels like a luger.

My favorite is the Ruger 22/45 5.5" Bull bbl. It simulates a 1911 style grip and has a normal mag release.

Although I'm not an "expert" on handguns by any means, I like the Browning Buckmark with the 5.5 inch heavy barrel. Feels good, hasn't failed to cycle in 3 years and countless boxes of ammo and also has been fun to shoot and teach others and KIDS with! I put a BSA red dot on it and that helps the kids hit their target more effectively. I use it with a swinging target so they can see what they hit and they love it. Not top of the line, not the most accurate out there but does a good job and is fun!! That's what shooting is supposed to be!!! GHD 0 -
the ruger comes in blue or ss, barrel lengths, in the adjustable rear sight models are from 4" to 10". factory walnut checkered left hand target grips are about $35. is one of the finest starter, plinker, or target pistols on the market. and it won't break your wallet.. 0 -
The Ruger 22-45 w/5.5" barrel is great. It will last as long as you need it and do whatever you want it to. Scope mounts are not as easy as some other models.

The Ruger Mk1 Target has a great balance, accuracy and grip angle. Dont worry about the takedown, you'll never have to do it.
The magazine catch would have been better by the trigger guard but it's not a combat gun.0 -

Any of the old High Standards, especially the military model will give you more accuracy for the money than even the hyper expensive brands...and more accuracy than 99.9% can ever exploit. You can't forget that Capt Bill McMillan won the Olympic Gold Medal in Rome in 1960 with an out of the box High Standard. Yeah it was a target pistol but it was also right out of the box. Beach 0 -

22 target pistols range from about $200 to several thousand dollars. If what you seek is reasonably priced, reasonably accurate pistol, look for Rugars, Hi-Standard,Supermatics, or Brownings. Left handed pistols are and where made, unfortunately not in as great a number as rightys. Watch the pawn shops, gun shows and auctions. They tend to turn up in these places often enough. The old Colts are getting pretty pricey these days, as are some of the old Hi-Standards. But, bargains are found every day if you keep your eyes and ears open. Good luck and good shooting.0 -
What kind of money do you want to spend? Nearly anything that's considered to be a good target .22 pistol, you're looking at a grand or more. The stock grips don't matter, there are lots of good grips available for the Ruger. For a new guy who may or may not be terribly interested in the Olypics, the Ruger is a good place to start. Pitch the factory grips and put on a set of after market grips and you'll be fine. 0 -

My money is on the Colt Woodsman Match Target. All other responders suggested quality arms. I have several Colts and they "feel right" and
shoot great. (Personal experience and ownership". Being a "lefty" also, I have had to adapt, not a problem for me. Just purchase the arm
that feels correct and that you are pleased with-do not purcase the Colt Cadet/aka .22 Colt. A pos and I am a Colt collector. The Ruger is an excellent gun and inexpensive. Never saw or shot a .22 that was

The Ruger MK II or the Browning Buckmark would be good choices. I think there are probably more accesories available for the Ruger. 0 -
You cannot beat the Ruger. There are several variations as to bbl length, SS vs blue, grip angle, so you should be able to find one that seems comfortable. The take-down is really easy---it's getting it back together that is problematic, however I do know people who have developede a "knack" for it and to them it's a breeze. It is also true that it is NOT necessary to take it apart for cleaning. I own three of them, a current 10" bull bbl Mk II, a vintage 1960 "Standard" and a 5 1/2" bull bbl MK I that I bought in 1964. Any of them can shoot lots better than I can; are extremely dependable, not fussy about ammo. Good luck with your choice.
