Winchester 101 28 ga.?
I have recently received a Winchester 101, O/U, 28 gauge, shotgun. It is the skeet model and made in 1969. I was told that is had never been shot but found out differently from local dealers. It is in very good shape and is in original box. The blue book is around $1400.00. Can anyone give me info as to how rare this gun may be. Does having the original box help the value or collectability of this gun? Thanks in advance for any info you guys can give me!!

Depending on how much the gun appears to be used , having the box does seem to help. The skeet model was the most common model in the 28 gauge 101's. Being one of the smaller gauges helps increase the value, even if it is a skeet gun. Although not really rare, there is some demand for the smaller gauge O-U's and the 101's have not been made for some time. They have taken a price jump in the last year or so. Not sure why, but maybe people are finally waking up to the fact that they were well made guns. If you decide to keep it, you will have a dandy upland gun, especially for quail. I do not think the Blue Book is out of line on the price. 0 -
Just like 25-06 mentions, these 101's have become very collectable over the past few years. Your Winchester retailed for $309.95 back in 1969 and was available in 12,20,28, and .410 at that same price. There were far fewer .410 skeet grades made, mostly because you have to be an expert to hit anything with those little shells! 28 gauge will still bring a nice premium over the standard 12 gauge and is a very sweet handling gun. I love the 28 gauge myself as it manages to pack enough pellets and the barrels on a 28 guage don't have the soda straw looks of a .410. An original box will always boost resale value because most folks simply tossed the boxes when they got the gun home. Collectors like anything that makes their gun stand out from the rest and a nice original factory box is high on that list. A nice Winchester like this will just keep on increasing in value over the years. Shoot it if you like, but keep in mind that every year fewer and fewer guns in this condition remain available for sale...and new Winchester collectors are born every day!

These little stack guns have become much sought out by sporting clay shooters, therfore you could probably do better than "blue book". The 101 winchester is among the finest o/u's ever built. Should you decide to use this gun, a finer upland bird gun would be tough to find. The 101 in any guage is a personal favorite of mine, I get them when I can. Your skeet version is not all that rare, but, they also have not been built in many years,therefore, they are not getting any more common either. As time passes it will only appreciate in value.0 -
