7.62x39 cartridge
Would like to know why the 7.62x39 round is not used by manufactures of note in bolt action rifles. Is it because this is not an accurate round to shoot and there must be more reasons? Perhaps it is just for military sector fire. Would like to read comments regarding this subject from serious shooters,please

im not sure if they still manufacture it, but cz, built a bolt action 7.62x39. im not sure how the accuracy is, but im sure with some quality brass factory loads and probably with reloads, that the gun would perform well. it seems like a great idea, a gun for hogs or deer to 100 yards. fits a great niche.
a friend of mine has an sks and can get 2 inch groups at 100 yards with winchester sp ammo. so i think that the cz would shoot as well or better!

It has been noted that the 7.62 x 39 is a very accurate round. It was developed as an assault rifle cartridge and as such is considered somewhat underpowered for a hunting rifle. Since most bolt action rifles are used for hunting purposes, it is not considered feasible to chamber this cartridge as a factory offering. The demand is too low and there are already too many cartridges that will do as good a job if not better. They might not be any more accurate, but they are fine for most hunting purposes.

Thanks for the info regarding the 7.62x39 cartridge. It looks like a fun cartridge to shoot as the ammo is very much available and at a very good cost and the recoil is very mild,(especially when you are 83). If reports from you serious shooters are good I think I would like to have a bolt action rifle built, but better still would be a good single shot (if I had an extractor for rimless cartridges to fit the Martini 310). It seems to me like a fun rifle to shoot in bolt action. I just have more fun shooting the bolt action. I have a few SKS's but do not enjoy them. I also have a couple of Akisaka the Chinese converted to 7.62x39 but they are a "far cry" from a good Mauser. I hope some of you people give me some good reasoning and please accept my Thanks for your input.

CZ and Ruger make current production Bolt Action rifles. The CZ is the model 527 with set trigger option; the rifle has a detachable magazine. Ruger offers it in the Model 77. Both rifles sell in the $400 range new. I have the CZ 527 and I like it. I would compare the recoil to a 7-08. I have no problem getting 2-2.5 inch groups at 100 yds with $3 ammo. 0 -
Charles Daly also catalogs " The Mini- Mauser" on their web sight chambered in 7.62X39. While the mini looks like a nice rifle, I have yet to see one available.A friend of mine who is a cast bullet Wiz says that this round is particularly suited for cast bullets. John

Winchester offers the caliber in one of their Bolt Actions,I think its the Model 70.

You can get a Marlin 30-30 lever action at Walmart for $150.00 that will at least equal the (heavy bullet/low velocity) 7.62x39, if not surpass it. 0 -
Thanks for all the enlightening information. You people helped me understand and I found a Ruger 77 RP MkII in 7.62x39 and will try it out as just a fun gun to shoot. Hope it will be as enjoyable as I think it will.
