Light weight .22 ?

I need a light weight .22 to coon hunt with. Presently, I have a Remington Model 597 and I hate it; the rear sight is a joke (and it's not a funny one). I've been thinking about buying a Marlin 995SS or a older Remington nylon 66. What is your opinion about these guns and is there any other suggestions.

    It's hard to knock-out a coon with one shot, when you use a pistol and it's not good to shoot alot around young pups that you're training.

    if you have a buddy with a nylon 66 try to barrow it for a hunt but be prepared to be spoiled. i thank you will find it to be the lightest and handyest little rifle you have ever used.

    High standard has produced a series of rifles, which is what I was referring to. They are tube fed, semi auto. I saw a few in the auctions here.

    Have you looked at the Chipmunk youth rifle overall 29 inches with a 16 inch barrel only weighs 2 pounds you are not going to find a smaller rifle than these. I believe it came in 22 mag also, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

    How would a Taurus model 62 stainless work? It is short and handy. Don't know what it weighs. GW.

    I have a Marlin Papoose which would be great for coon hunting.They come in a nice carry case and th barrel screws on and off.Their just a little pricey but a great gun.I also have a Charter Arms AR-7 .22 which Henry makes now that the Barrel,reciever and mag goes into the polymer stock when broke down,mine is camo.They both are great shooting .22 Rifles.The Henry is guaranteed to float.And is cheaper than the Marlin Papoose.You can view both guns at Marlins and Henry's web site.

    Go with Marlin. I have a Marlin Model 81TS. It has a syn stock and tube feed. It is great and can beat the groops it shoot. I payed $139 for it. Better yet Marlin has a new gun Model 17v. It is a mag .17 cal rim fire. You might also try the Savage .17 both guns run about $189. You migh find it hard to locate a marlin but savage wont be much easier.

    I use my Buckmark rifle on coon. Pistol weight with rifle accuracy.

    I'm sorry I thought that you was talking about a pistol. Truthfully, I didn't know that Hi-standard made a rifle.

    Really! Try a Rem. Nylon 66. Light, accurate, reliable. Getting pricey in good condition.

    Dito to what Uncle Milo said! For better sight to target alinement just add a drop of white out to the front sight. Best set-up I've used. The only draw back is if you want a sling, you will need to buy a shotgun sling or (I hate to say) two zip ties and some leather

    If you can find a Nylon 66 at a reasonable price, you just cannot do much better. The dang things are starting to get pricey!!
