s&w 4506-1
I have a s&w 4506-1 i just bought and would like to ask the experts what they think of this gun. What is a fair price in vgc? I also would like to know what the -1 means?

S&W 4506's are the successor to the 645--a full-size "duty pistol." They are much better made than the 645's in that NC machinery were used in their manufacture. Tolorances were much tighter.
The -1 indicated the next version of the 4506 with included some small factory modification to supposedly make the gun "better." If I recall, on the very first 4506's, Smith hadn't gotten the magazines quiet right and were still using mags for 645's with rubber bumpers on the floor plates. By the time the -1 came out, that problem had long since been resolved.
From a value standpoint, I can't tell you what your used 4506 is worth, but I seem to recall that dealer cost on them 5 years ago was over $450. They were good pistols and their prices reflected it.
My knowledge is somewhat limited on this so maybe someone else can give more details. I also hope they correct me if I've misstated something.
Respectfully,

One other thing: I see this is your first post. Let me say, "welcome to the forum."
