As a fellow Arisaka fan, I am shocked. Over the years I have NEVER had such a problem! I am aware that many were rechambered, but they were generally marked as such, and moreover were usually "sporterized". To get three in a row is wierd. Did they come from the same person? Please keep me in mind if you find out the answer.

Mine has excessive headspace and when fired the brass jumps back and opens up... I might try that .257 Roberts conversion thingamabob and see.

Something IS wrong here! I've never had an Arisaka with a bad chamber. Since they are becoming very scare in the condition you describe it is worth taking them to a gunsmith and finding out exactly what you've got. A cerrosafe chamber cast would be the way to go. The possibilities are several, but it does sound like you have conversions.

I'm going to see if I can find a collector who has the 6.5/257 cartridge and just see if it chambers. If so, problem solved. Otherwise I will make a chamber cast.

You do not need the 257R/6.5 cart to make the check. A standard .257 Roberts round will tell you if rechambering has been done.

Don't fire it ,but try a 30/06 round in the chamber.Just a hunch.
