Are these military surplus rounds? If so, when I was in the Army, A green tip was an anti-personnel round, or in some cases a tracer. If the tip is green plastic, it is a ballistic tip varment round.

All the ones at gun shows with green tips are tracers.

Green tip is 62 grain ball (M855). Orange tip is tracer.

Or so I've been led to believe.

Rifleman is right,, green tip is the 62 grain standard round with steel core also called SS 109. orange tip is the long range tracer M856, and the old red tip is the M196 tracer.
