Colt Combat Commander -1911 Parts Compatibility

What's the overall parts compatibility between a 1911 and the Colt Combat Commander. Particularly regarding magazines, should/could I be using the same 8 rd Wilson ones as in my series 70 5" 1911 or what?

  That will depend entirely upon whether you have a commander with a standard or shortened grip frame. If it has a standard frame, yes, you can use standard 1911 mags. If it is a short grip, you'll have to use 7 round mags designed for it. most parts are interchangable between them. The Barrel and slide and frame lenght is different between them, however.

  My understanding is that the Combat designation indicates full size on the grip. Maybe one of the Colt mavens can verify that.

  Any mag that will fit into your Series 70 will fit into your Combat Commander.

  Thanks! I might add a couple for the Commander's main use, but it will be real convenient to share mags at the range.
