SAVAGE 32/20

My Dad had a Savage 32/20 bolt...any info about this rifle would be appreciated.

  Your dad'd rifle was probably a Model 23C, as that was the member of the series chambered for the .32-20 cartridge. These were made from the early 1920's up until the start of WWII when they were discontinued for the duration and then never reintroduced, although there may have been some parts clean up right after the war. These were good solid rifles but nothing exceptional and they show up on the auction circut selling in the $150 range in typical condition- which is usually rather well used. The .32-20 has a modest following as a small game cartridge. I hope this information helps you.

  These are nice little guns and were also made in 25-20 and 22 hornet. Magazines are hard to find and expensive if you loose one. Here in the north east they are gaining in popularity as they dont make a lot of noise and are not expensive to shoot or reload. In good condition they will bring about $200.00 and the 22 hornet a little more.

  I have 9 of these 23s
  3 are in 32/20...and
  6 are in .22 LR
  
  Got another one last weekend[:p]
  
  The interesting thing is
  the receiver and barrel

  There is a 5 page very informative article on these rifles in Frank de Haas' book- Bolt Action Rifles.
  The law won't let me copy it but I'll tear out the pages and send them to you if you give me your address.
  I bought a 23D Hornet about 20 years ago and they seem to multiply, have several 23a's, b's, c's and d's now. 22lr, 25-20, 32-20 and Hornet. They're all good varmint rifles,- beat the heck out of the 25-06. (Sorry, GHD)
