Old Hunter (brand) .22 revolver
I'd like to fix this old .22 for my father but I suspect that I'm DOA on this one.
He obtained this gun in 1960 in college (used), I'm not sure of the age of the weapon but the Brand is HUNTER and is long since out of production. I can get serials later but I'm not with the gun now. It is a revolver .22. It had been a great shooting gun. However, the cylinder has worn and when last shot (20 years ago) the wear had made the alignment sloppy. So much so that the bullet would shave entering the chamber and shoot debris out the side of the gun. The teeth on the cylinder itself appear to me to be the problem. I doubt I can find either reproduction or an original .22 Hunter unused or working condition cylinder so.... Can this one be repaired?
For the moment lets just pretend that it would make sense to spend the money on this valueless weapon. He'd spend too much if he could just have it working again.

You did not state if the revolver was a single or a double action. If it is a single action, parts can be found easier than if it is a double action. I would try Numrich Gun Parts. They have a good supply of parts.

Cecil: Would this Gun happen to be a HY HUNTER, Single Action, Western Six Shooter, Marked Burbank, California....?

captain, I called for a clarification. It is an H & R arms gun serial 178003. He always thought it was a "hunter" as on top of the gun it is stamped in very large lettering HUNTER MODEL. It is a single action, 7 shot.

In new condition this revolver has a value in the neighborhood of $150. In well loved condition and not working more like $50. That aside as you suggested, Gun Parts Corp may be your best hope for parts. 0 -

You are correct in your observation that the "teeth" (ratchets) on the rear of the cylinder are probably the problem. If you are persistent you can probably locate and fit a new cylinder, and you will very likely need to install a new hand. Financially practical? No. Possible? Yes. A surprising number of parts for old H&R guns are available. 0
