unkown revolver

I have a top break revolver marked for 38 W.C.F. cartridge It has no rifling in the barrel. Trying to find out anthing about it?

.38 WCF is the same as .38-40. This must be a pretty big gun.

No rifling? Or worn out? I would suspect worn and rusted out, and if the barrel is that bad, I would think twice about trying to shoot it.

Can you post or send a picture? What are the other markings?

It is a big gun ,the bore is lager than a 45 it has BElGIUM on one side and crown with a R under it.

It is not rusted out,It may be shot out But it does not look like it. I will try and post a picture at a latter date

I borrowed one of these beauties to chronograph black powder 44-40 loads out of a 6" barrel.The revolver was a Belgian copy of the big S&W first model Double Action, only it had a 6" barrel. The gun was in mint condition with nickel finish.
After four or six shots the gun shot loose in the latch and cylinder lockup. It was unsafe even with black powder and lead bullets.
WW Greener in his book,The Gun, writes that junky Belgian "Trade Guns" having no makers' name do not hold together and are not safe to shoot.
This also applied to shotguns.
