X-treme Duty
I saw the ad/story on the Springfield at the American Rifleman site, but have no experience with this one. Who does, and what's the straight skinny? And, is there talk about one in .45?

Your talking about the Springfield Extramine Duty.It has a grip safety like a 1911 that the grip safety. It is supposed to be a great gun with a lifetime warranty. As of now their are no plans to offer it in .45acp.

I believe you are refering to the polymer gun that SA imports from Croatia. It's a good gun as far as it goes, but it's really nothing much different than a Glock which has both the market share and mind share of knowledgeable shooters. You can save maybe $50-100 by getting the SA. You'd be better off with a Glock, which is available in .45 in three different models. I have the Glock 30 which packs 10 rounds of 45 in a rather small package. I like Springfield, but the Extreme Duty is not a gun I'd even consider buying.

Thanks guys,
Two different opinions is not unusual, but doesn't anyone own one?
CaptKirk, you're awful quiet? Help please.0 -
I don't own one yet but I will soon. Mine will be in 357 sig . This gun is superior to any Glock .It has added features that Glock doesnt.See this post-http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34635&SearchTerms=springfield+xd . 0 -
bought three of them when they were the HS2000. Great guns, accurate, no problems whatsoever. Have never fired a Glock so can't compare, but everyone I know who owns one has loved it. Try the www.hs2000talk.com forum to gain more knowledge about them. If you get one you will not be sorry.

Far superior to the glock - IT HAS 3 SAFTIES!!!

The only safety I trust is the one between the ears. If that's not working, all bets are off. More safeties equal more things to go wrong or not remembered at the worst possible time.
There is no such thing as a safe gun, only safe shooters.

I have an XD in 40 cal that I am very happy with. In fact I sold a Beretta 96 to buy this one. It is now my primary carry piece. I also own a couple of Glocks, and as far as picking one over the other, there are features I like about both. Instead of choosing between the XD or the Glock, I choose to own both. Find a spot to rent both and shoot them a few times, you may find you actually like neither; Good luck in you search.

Thanks again guys, I'm gonna think on this one awhile. Have a pair of the KP97DC's and of course am very happy with them. The Glock 36 thought started this, was ready to buy when the X came into play. 0 -
I believe they are going to make them with 5 inch barrels. Anyone know for sure? Bshooter 0 -
The grip shape copies the Browning HiPowers' which I really favor over the Glock 19 grip. Also appealing are the full length rails and the grip safety. 0
