I was wondering....can anyone inlighten me as to the value of a L C Smith double barrel 12 guage shotgun? It's a 28 inch barrel.[?]

Your question is akin to me asking the length of a river in North America.
Condition, features, engraving, thorough description, and even a serial number would be a big help.

L.C. Smith was a high quality shotgun and is very desired by collectors....but....as Nord says, a great deal depends on condition, model, features, and engraving.
A photo would be helpful, but at the very least, we need a complete description, and all of the writing on the gun.0 -
I have my dad's 12 ga L C Smith. It is a field grade with no distinctive marks. It is in excellent shape and I believe it is worth somewhere in the $ 800 range. 0 -

While I can't argue, 12 ga. field guns seldom bring that much. I'm in your corner as far as value, but I think you'll be disappointed should you try to sell. Merry Christmas.

[Ok.....so, I'm new at this!!
The old thing has very little writing on it...On either side, right
above and a little to the front of the triggers.....you can see...
L C Smith.....
At the end of the barrel, right before the place it "breaks away" when opened....says....HUNTER ARMS Co.

You can tell that the barrels have had engraving all up and down them...but it's nearly worn off......
Around the side plate, on either side you can still see the zigzag stitch look that goes all the way around it.
I realize this doesn't help much....but, I can't find a model number on it anywhere!
I've been told that in it's day it was an eye catcher for sure...It was engraved all the way up and down the barrels.0 -
I would imagine the 'engraving' you are referring to is actually the remnant of an old Damascus pattern. 0 -
Based on your revised description, I would tend to agree with ancientone that the barrels are indeed damascus-- therefore NOT a safe shooter. In addition, you mentioned that the side plates have a "zigzag stitch" around them, which would a O Grade pre-1913 Smith. You can determine the grade by taking the barrels off the gun and look on the water table (where the serial number appears), and there will be a number stamped away from the serial number, such as 00, 0, 1, 2, etc. Whatever that number is will be the grade of your gun. Again, damascus barrels are unsafe with modern shells !!! 0 -

As to value--condition is everything, even in a "wall-hanger", which is what you have. 12Ga. 0 grades are the second most common of the pre-'13 Smiths. Values of average condition of the above in my area--$125-$150. Again, DO NOT FIRE IT !!! 0 -
