Blued vs Stainless
Any ideas?
I have been staying with the stainless for a few years now for many reasons (rust,durability,smoothness,and even pretty). But the biggest reason, I think it is just a better metal than steel. Am I wrong about this?
I could give up the pretty due to the fact that I have never wore any gun out and I live in the desert.

I agree with you on the stainless being a better barell.I have two stainless flutted barell rifles,a 308 and a 223.I think stainless is the only way to go.Might cost a few bucks more but they are well worth it. 0 -
Don't wanna burst your bubble but not all stainless is rust resistant. Most all gun barrels ect. are made with 400 series stainless. It is not totally rust resistant. Only 200 and 300 series is totally rust resistant. Keep your oil rag ready on your new stainless gun cause it still can rust. 0 -
I like the stainless. Recently, I dropped my unloaded Ruger KP-90D out of my pick-up on to an asphhalt parking lot. The pistol landed on the slide near the end of the barrel and slid about three feet down a slope on asphalt. The gun was a mess. I removed the grips and used some Hopps to get most of the asphalt off and went over the slide with a scotch brite pad and it looked new again. No sign of scratches! I have to believe a blued steel slide would have faired worse.

I definitely prefer stainless, but it's certainly not invulnerable. I had a Kimber Custom Combat, an excellent gun, stainless, and it actually started to show signs of rust. It blew my mind. The Glock Tennifer, now that's one heck of an invulnerable finish.

Stainless is also about 10% lighter than cold-rolled steel, a little less than half the weight savings one would get if the part were made of aluminum. That could be good or bad, depending on whether the weight matters to you.

brushed or blasted stainless will show rust faster than polished stainless due to the pores being left open or larger. I have had some of my custom barrels blasted, for being non-glare, but I think if it were just for functionality, I would rather have all polished stainless.

When hunting, does the stainless create problems with reflections or 'give away' your position to the game? I know that cameras come in flat black for these two reasons.
