My understanding is race guns are OK as long as you are using 10 round magazines. In Uspsa arround here, they are calling Limited-10 the California division...

Lobo, I think that you misunderstand the magazine ban here in California. You are allowed to own, use and keep ANY high capacity magazines which you owned prior to the 2000 cut off date. You are simply not allowed to purchase or bring into the state any new high capacity magazines- although you are free to use any which you now have for any legal purpose.

The Olympic handgun exepmtion was designed to exclude match guns like Walther's and Hammerli's which have magazines located in front of the trigger gaurd (not in the grip). By definition this would make them assault weapons- much like a TEC9 or other such "pistols". These match pistols are now exempted from the AW ban and the handgun roster of "not unsafe" pistols. There are only about a dozen Olympic pistols with this exemption so it is very limited.

As far a race guns are concerned, these tend to be upgraded versions of current pistols built with a large number of inhancements. As far as I know these pistols would still have to appear on the approved list to be allowed for dealer sales in this state. The list is VERY specific about charactoristics of the various named pistols, so I doubt a race gun would be allowed to simply "piggyback" onto the listing of its original pistol, even if that basic pistol were certified for sale here.

In reference to your remark about race guns being used in IDPA, that is not allowed under IDPA rules. All guns must be more or less stock.

Uspsa is the united states section of IPSC for all practical purposes, minor differences in the rule book, but same general idea. They have a production class which is a good way to get a new person into the sport and see if it is something they want to do before they dump tons of money into a race gun. Try www.uspsa.org

shootlow, thanks, but for now it is just research, except for an unofficial little combat shoot once a month that I have been going to for about a year. Someday soon I hope.
