454 Redhawk- cases

My uncle recently bought a Ruger Super Redhawk with a 7 1/2" barrel chambered for 454 Casull. After firing I found that the cases were swollen at the head. I found that the cylinder is not countersunk on those. Doesn't that seem a little dangerous? I surprised the cases don't split. I like Rugers, but that seemed a little under-designed.

  My dad has the 9 1/2" the case's seem fine coming out of his. When firing .45 long colts out of it occasionally theres a tiny bit of powder blast to the sides.. I think its because of the lip in the cylinder that the short case of the .45 long colt doesn't go all the way up to it.

  I wasn't questioning the strength of them, They are definitely tough toys. I use to stop in at Gary Reider's place in Flagstaff and check out some of the sledgehammers he was building out of Rugers. I was just surprised they didn't counterbore the cylinders, I kinda thought that was standard for cannons of that type. Also the rounds that I noticed this on were Hornady 300 gr HP's. I think they were supposed to do 1625 ft/sec if I remember correctly. Nasty buggers...
