Get a one eighth inch brass or aluminum welding rod. They come in 36" length so you can cut to desired lenth. Try individual welders or welding shops or a welding supplies dealer. Shouldn't cost much at all, with a bit of proper conversation, maybe free. Hope this helps. 0 -
Thanks guys for the help. Does the mainstream companies like Hoppes, Outers, Birchwood Casey etc have anbything that will fit the bill ? 0 -
Most of the damage that a steel rod can cause will be at the muzzle and you can remedy that by using a bore guide.
The damage caused by a loose-fitting steel rod moving at 2 ft. per second isn't nearly as severe as a jacketed bullet going at 4,000+ fps. as in a .17 Remington, plus there's the extreme heat, powder residue and gunk left from previous shots.
The Kleen Bore 3-piece steel rod comes with a bronze brush, jag and swab, costs about 11 bucks.
It's model SB- 1690
