    Get a one eighth inch brass or aluminum welding rod. They come in 36" length so you can cut to desired lenth. Try individual welders or welding shops or a welding supplies dealer. Shouldn't cost much at all, with a bit of proper conversation, maybe free. Hope this helps.

    Thanks guys for the help. Does the mainstream companies like Hoppes, Outers, Birchwood Casey etc have anbything that will fit the bill ?

    Most of the damage that a steel rod can cause will be at the muzzle and you can remedy that by using a bore guide.
    The damage caused by a loose-fitting steel rod moving at 2 ft. per second isn't nearly as severe as a jacketed bullet going at 4,000+ fps. as in a .17 Remington, plus there's the extreme heat, powder residue and gunk left from previous shots.
    The Kleen Bore 3-piece steel rod comes with a bronze brush, jag and swab, costs about 11 bucks.
