Why not return to Factory for repair and any upgrades.....? They won't charge anymore than a local gunsmith..... Contact Remington Arms Company at 870 Remington Dr., Madison, NC 27025-0700
Give them a Call at 1-800-243-9700 and talk to them.......

I don't think that Remington will work on the 742 any longer. All
parts have been discontinued and disposed of. At one time they would
make you a good trade. Your 742 and few bucks got you a new 7400.
But, I don't know if they still offer that trade.0 -
Go to the Remington web site. I believe that they list authorized or recommended repair sites for guns they no longer work on. 0 -
I just had the pleasure of getting my 870 repaired, had trouble feeding the next shell after the shot. Took it to White Dog Gunsmithing, 62 Central ave., Ilion, New York 13357, phone # 315-894-6211, fax # 315-894-2179, He is a bout 1/4 block from the ilion arms factory in NY. He dose everything, but a little pricey. Has two retired remington arms ole timers on his staff. They do a ton of remington arms repairs. Hope this helps, dosen't hurt to call! 0
