Who sells synthetic M1A stocks?
I'm heading to AZ w/ my M1A for a mulie hunt next fall. I live in WI and my rifle is stocked in walnut. Obviously I'm concerned about the effect that significant humidity changes will have on the long range accuracy of my weapon.
I therefore went looking for synthetic stocks. "Fred" sells them in SGN and on-line, and for a pretty good price, but I've been told that military stocks will require filing (forend will have a raised crease its entire length, if I've been told correctly) and the selector switch cutout is extremely unattractive. I've emailed "Fred" w/ questions about his product, but got no reply.
SA will sell me one of their black pebbled numbers, w/ full buttplate hardware, for the low, low price of $171.00. (That's right, $171.00!)
Who else sells synthetic stocks for the M1A?
All replies are appreciated.

I have 'heard' that Fred's product is good...but you better know what you are getting.
I would like to know as well. I am looking to sell a pre-ban M1A but a 'Sprg.-type' fiberglass stock at a cheap price might convince me to keep it for hunting (with 5-rd mags of course).

I'm not sure how nice of a stock you're looking for, but Cheaper Than Dirt has old military fiberglass stocks for $15 (or they did back when I ordered one). Kind of hard to beat that price if it will work for you for just swaping out to hunt with when the climate isn't so nice. 0 -
Fred has about the best price you can get. Cheaperthandirt, is OUT of STOCK! Fred has a stock for $25.00 I got one and I am very happy with it. Like his web page says.... He is slow with e mail. I know other's that have got things from him... Not any problems. [:D]
It will hurt you, More than it will hurt me..

I ordered 3 of the military fiberglass stocks from Fred a few years ago for $15-$20, they came with the steel buttplate and front ferral ... anyway 1 I used the buttplate and ferral for a Fagen type 3 laminated stock, the other 2 I refinished the buttplates with black enamal and sold for $25 ea. The 3 stocks I painted in a fall camo, sold them for $75 each ... everybody was happy!
Thanks Gunbroker [:D]

The Gent who own's "Fred's" is helpful and will fix you up with any M14 Stock or part you need.
Fred is the dog's name.
The selector cutout is not that bad, especially for a hunting gun.
I don't know about any crease.
GI glass stocks are wonderful for using guns.
